Workers Give Okorocha 7-Day Ultimatum Over Salaries, Pensions


The organised labour in Imo State has issued a seven-day ultimatum to the state authorities to pay March 2019 salaries owed to state Civil servants and all of the excellent pension arrears.

The organised labour within the state comprised the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), the Joint Public Service Negotiating Council (PSNC) and Trade Union Congress (TUC).

In a letter to the state governor, Owelle Rochas Okorocha, the employees stated that each one efforts to make sure that the state Accountant-General paid the March 2019 salaries had yielded no end result.

The letter collectively signed by the state chairman of the NLC, Comrade Austin Chilakpu, chairman of TUC, Comrade NkimTangban and chairman, JPSNC, Comrade Aloy Iwuanyanwu respectively, said that the explanations superior for not paying staff’ salaries had been unacceptable to the Labour.

According to them, the continual delay within the cost of staff’ salaries and excellent pension was unjustified because the state authorities had obtained each LGA allocations, 13 p.c derivation fund, Ecological funds and internally generated fund.

It expressed fear that staff could also be observing Easter holidays with out their salaries, stressing that no state within the North would deny its employees wage throughout Sallah celebrations.

“It is pertinent to level out that no state authorities within the North can deny its staff their salaries throughout Salah.

“We can’t assure any industrial peace if the federal government fails to do the needful. Labour leaders in Imo State shouldn’t be held accountable for any outbreak of business unrest.

“Government should use the seven days given to her to pay the workers and pensioners,” the Organised Labour said.
