Kingsley Moghalu congratulates Grammy winners, Burna Boy, Wizkid

 

Prof. Kingsley Moghalu, a former Presidential Candidate of the Young Progressives Party, YPP; on Monday joined other Nigerians and Africans in celebrating Nigerian Afrobeat stars; Burna Boy and Wizkid for clinching the 2021 Grammy Music Awards.

Moghalu, in a statement in Lagos, commended the artistes for their feats at the just concluded Grammy-award event on Sunday, March 14 in the US.

MuchTalksBlog reports that Burna Boy, (Damini Ogulu) a 29-year-old Nigerian artiste, who was nominated for the second consecutive year, won the Best Global Music Album category with his `Twice As Tall’ album.

He defeated four other nominees.

Also, Wizkid real name Ayodeji Balogun, a 30-year-old Nigerian artiste, won the Best Music Video for his song with Beyoncé; Brown Skin Girl, from Lion King: The Gift album.

The 63rd edition of the Grammy Awards, which was held in Los Angeles, USA, is often described as “music’s biggest night”.

Reacting, Kingsley Moghalu said;

“Burna Boy and Wizkid have made Nigeria and Africa proud.

“This honour shows the level of talents the youth in Nigeria have. I believe others will look at this and draw motivation to strive to be the best in every area of their endeavours.”

Earlier in 2020, Burna Boy’s album, African Giant lost the category to Angelique Kidjo’s remastering of Celia Cruz’s music on the eponymous, Celia. Some of those moments inspired Burna Boy’s Twice As Tall. The Afrobeats flagbearer spoke about some of that on the opening track to ‘Twice As Tall.’

The Nigerian singer’s win is Nigeria’s first since Sikiru Adepoju won with Planet Drum over 10 years ago. Beyonce’s video for ‘Brown Skin Girl’ also won for Best Music Video alongside Wizkid, Saint Jhn and Blue Ivy.
