Chike: ‘Reality shows are mentally exhausting’

Nigerian recording artiste, Chike has participated in two popular reality shows, MTN Project Fame and The Voice, where he finished as runner-up in the latter.

Chike’s fame has continued to rise as one of the best vocalists in the Nigerian entertainment industry.

The reality star and talented vocalist who is also a movie actor revealed in a recent interview that reality shows are mentally exhausting. He mentioned that most times, the participants of the show rarely get to enjoy their time in the house primarily due to the tension and stress of the show.

Speaking, Chike real name Chike-Ezekpeazu Osebuka had this to say;

“Emotionally, it was stressful to have so many dreams.

Like you (referring to the show’s host) said; when people come out of the reality show; there is pressure and it’s heart-wrenching when people see me and start asking ‘so what are you doing now?” Chike asked.

In the latter part of the session, Chike mentioned that it is pivotal for prospective reality stars to think they will gain an automatic ticket to fame once they appear on a reality show.

The singer continued;

“They (reality shows) give visibility…but is it really about you or the business?

The business, to me, is to entertain Nigerians and I want to believe the greatest win any contestant could get was the visibility,” he said.

“And it could be the greatest setback for you too if you’re not able to do anything with it.

After the reality show, it took me about three years plus to be able to get anything properly to sort myself.

So, imagine everybody knows you because you appeared on TV, then all of a sudden, you’re nowhere again.”
