Nigerian feminists to boycott Twitter on April 9

 


Nigerian feminists have scheduled Friday, April 9 to take a day off the microblogging site, Twitter.


The announcement was published on the social media platform, Twitter on Wednesday, March 31 by the radical feminist, @Mochievous. According to the female empowerment advocate, the purpose of the protest is to make a statement against inequality on the social media platform.


She mentioned in her post that men have continued to harass young women; hence, it is essential for women to walk away from every form of disrespect.


The US-based feminist admonished Nigerian feminists and other women that identify with the sect to shun activities on the microblogging site throughout April 9. She then went on to promote the trend, #StopTwitterHarrassment.

April 9th has been scheduled as a day to boycott the social media platform, Twitter.

In her series of tweets on social media; she pointed out that the Bird App is no longer a safe place for women.

“Twitter is becoming unusable for women all over the world because of consistent harassment and pile-on from misogynistic men.


April 9th Twitter Boycott.


#StopTwitterHarrassment”



She continued to urge for a safe space for women.


Here is what she wrote;


“The world is digital.


What this means is that creating safe spaces for women online is just as important as it is offline.


Many women are silenced online through bullying and harassment.


I hope organizations who care about women join their voices to #StopTwitterharassment”


Moments after the tweet went viral, several netizens reacted to the post. Social media users from the western part of the world also confirmed that they will be joining Nigerian feminists in agitating for a safer sociosphere.


Since Moe’s suggestion went viral on the social media platform, men have shared their two-cent about the day.
