Owner Of Collapsed Ikoyi Skyscraper Stuck Inside Debris – Eyewitness Reveals
According to a Nigerian man who observed the fall of the 21-story building in Ikoyi, the building’s owner is stuck with the other victims.
The building on Gerard Road in Ikoyi collapsed this afternoon, trapping an unknown number of people inside. Three people have been rescued, while two people have been confirmed dead by NEMA.
The witness, who gave media the name Morris Ashiru, said he and some of his colleagues went to work at the construction site and that the building’s owner, as well as many others, are still locked in the debris of the collapsed skyscraper.
“Everybody was working. A lot of people came here from Abuja. The owner of the building is inside. He brought some clients to inspect the building.”
In other news, Prowess Engineering Limited, the firm that started work on the Gerrard Terrace skyscraper in Ikoyi, Lagos, before it collapsed, pulled out of the project in February 2020.
Prowess Engineering Limited resigned from the Gerrard Terraces project in February 2020, according to a letter issued to Fourscore Heights Limited. The engineering firm stated because it no more shared the same vision as its customer.
Prowess Engineering Limited stated it can guarantee the structural integrity of the first two buildings it built for Fourscore Heights Limited, but it couldn’t guarantee the third building’s structural integrity from anything above the fourth level.
On November 1, the building collapsed;
The letter Prowess Engineering Limited wrote withdrawing its service reads: “This letter is to formally inform you of the withdraw of our structural consultancy service from the above named project. We arrived at this decision due to the fact that we no longer share the same vision with you as our client in terms of how the project is being executed.
“We can guarantee the integrity of the first two buildings and also work done up to the fourth floor of the third building supervised by us provided specifications have been met in terms of the required concrete strength. This we do not have control over as we do not have the concrete cube test results of each stage of the building till date. Also, note that we are not taking responsibility for any other construction errors that may have occurred overtime on the project.
“Furthermore, we request that our company’s name and logo be removed from the project board and also kindly notify all necessary approving authorities of our withdrawal from the project.
“We regret this decision and the lost opportunity to do business together. We look forward to future cooperation in other projects.”
