FG Unveils Details Of Stipend For Teachers-In-Training January

The Teachers Registration Council of Nigeria has stated that the details of President Muhammadu Buhari’s promise of a N75,000 semester allowance to education students in federal universities and federal colleges of education will be released next month.

Letters had already been written, according to the council, and the Ministry of Education was working with the Tertiary Education Trust Fund on the matter.

According to a report by The Punch, Prof Josiah Ajiboye, the Registrar, TRCN, disclosed this in a telephone interview with newsmen on Wednesday.

MuchTalksBlog reports that Buhari during the 2021 World Teachers’ Day had announced that his administration would make the teaching profession lucrative and ensure that teachers were adequately trained.

He also announced that student teachers undergoing training in public institutions would have access to semester stipends of N50,000 for those in colleges of education and N75,000 for those in universities.

The TRCN boss had earlier told newsmen that the Federal Government had set up a committee consisting of representatives of the council, the National Salaries, Income and Wages Commission, the Head of Service of the Federation and the education ministry.

But on Wednesday, he told newsmen that the details about the implementation would unfold in January 2022.

“The ministers involved have prepared the letters and they are working alongside with TETFund. All the necessary things have been done; the details will be unveiled in January,” Ajiboye stated.
