AL-AHLI CLOSING IN ON ROBERTO FIRMINO SIGNING
According to Foot Mercato journalist Santi Aouna, Saudi Arabian side Al-Ahli are closing in on the signing of Roberto Firmino (31), who is a free agent following the expiry of his contract at Liverpool.
There had been reports that the Brazilian forward was of interest to Real Madrid, but it now looks like he will leave Europe altogether, and become the latest big-name player to join the Saudi Pro League. Players such as N’Golo Kanté, Karim Benzema, Ruben Neves and Kalidou Koulibaly have already made the move so far this summer, and others are expected to follow.
The negotiations between Firmino and Al-Ahli, who return to the top-flight of Saudi football, are advanced, and only a few small details need to be finalised. He will join a side that also looks like adding Chelsea goalkeeper Édoucard Mendy to their ranks. He would become the second Chelsea player to make the move to the Gulf state, whilst Hakim Ziyech is expected to follow suit.
