Address Challenges Or Risk Defeat In 2027, Ex-Vice Chair To APC

Salihu Mohammed Lukman, the former national vice chairman (North West) of the All Progressives Congress (APC), issues a stark warning to the party’s top leaders. Lukman urges immediate attention to the current challenges faced by Nigerians, emphasizing the potential risk of defeat in the 2027 general elections.

Speaking in Abuja on Wednesday, Lukman, a former Director General of the Progressive Governors’ Forum (PGF), addresses newsmen ahead of his book launch, ‘APC and Transition Politics in Nigeria,’ scheduled for Tuesday. Lukman underscores the APC’s envisioned progressive nature, calling for transformative efforts to improve Nigeria.

Key figures like Vice President Kashim Shettima, APC national chairman Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, governors, former national chairmen John Odigie-Oyegun, Adams Oshiomhole, and other critical APC stakeholders are expected at the launch.

Lukman advocates for open and constructive engagement with leaders, cautioning against reverting to old habits of denial post-election victories. He highlights the escalating challenges faced by Nigerians, stressing the increasing difficulty of life. Lukman asserts the need for a responsive democracy, urging elected leaders to translate the demands of Nigerians into government policies that align with expectations.

“We must appeal to our leaders that things are almost getting out of hand. The rate at which we are going, under a party envisioned to be progressive, we are likely to start witnessing rebellion. If care is not taken, by 2027, we risk being kicked out of office, reverting Nigeria to its 2015 state.”
