Two arraigned for stabbing neighbour’s eyes with broken plate in Ondo
The Ondo State Police Command has arraigned a 42-year-old woman, Kemi Ayodele, before an Akure Chief Magistrate Court, for allegedly stabbing her neighbour with a broken plate.
The defendant was arraigned alongside a man, Akerele Odunayo, 45, on four counts of conspiracy, assault occasioning harm, and attempted murder.
The defendants committed the offences on November 30, 2023, at about 8:30 pm at their residence, No. 32 Oshinle Quarters in Akure.
The prosecutor, Musbau Bakare told the court that the defendants conspired with others at large to assault one woman, Ubagun Chinanoye, by stabbing her in her left eye with a broken plate.
“The defendants stabbed Chinanoye during an altercation which caused her grievous harm, and she was rushed to the hospital. Due to the effect of the stabbing on the complainant, she sustained a deep cut in her eye,” he said.
Bakare alleged that the defendants, through the heinous act, attempted to kill the complainant.
The offences contravene Sections 516, 335 and 320 and 332(1) of the Criminal Code, Laws of Ondo, 2006.
The duo, however, pleaded not guilty.
The defence counsel, Mrs. B.A. Ayodele and A.O Akinde, prayed the court to grant their clients bail in most liberal terms, assuring that they would not jump bail.
Chief Magistrate Folashade Aduroja granted them bail in the sum of N500,000 each with two sureties each in the like sum.
The Magistrate said one of the sureties must be a civil servant not less than level 12 and above, and must reside within the court’s jurisdiction.
She adjourned the case till January 24, 2024, for hearing.
