APC Challenges Governor Makinde’s 2024 Budget as PDP Dismisses Claims

Governor Seyi Makinde’s 2024 budget proposal has sparked a clash between the All Progressives Congress (APC) and the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Oyo State.

The APC, labelling Makinde’s budget as defective, unrealistic, and fraudulent, called on State House of Assembly members to scrutinize the document thoroughly before rushing into approval. Olawale Sadare, the APC’s publicity secretary in the state, criticized various aspects of the N434.2 billion budget, branding it as “another dubious presentation” lacking innovation, policy direction, and accountability.

Sadare highlighted concerns about the allocation of N21 billion to the governor’s office without a clear breakdown and an additional N485 million for Cabinet and Security service. He pointed to the deplorable condition of public facilities, especially the Agodi State Secretariat, and questioned the governor’s commitment to education, citing neglect in public schools.

In response, Michael Ogunsina, the PDP spokesman in the state, defended the 2024 budget proposal, emphasizing the government’s dedication to fiscal responsibility and sustainable economic growth. He praised the transparent approach to revenue projections and accountability in financial matters as indicated in the budget document.

Ogunsina reiterated the Oyo State government’s commitment to serving the people and creating an environment conducive to growth and development. The clash underscores the differing perspectives on the budget’s merits and the ongoing debate over its allocations and priorities.
