Defection: River State lawmaker makes U-turn, returns to PDP from APC

In a surreal turn of events, one of the Rivers State lawmakers that defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC) on Monday has returned to the ruling party in the State.

Hon. Linda Somari Stewart, the lawmaker representing Okrika in the State House of Assembly, reportedly backtracked on her earlier defection to the All Progressives Congress (APC).

According to reports from the oil rich southern state, Stewart has officially returned to the People’s Democratic Party (PDP).

Her return to the PDP firmly embedded her in the camp of Governor Siminalayi Fubara, the state leader.

Stewart’s decision to rejoin the PDP comes after her initial departure from the party, indicates that the governor is gradually gaining grounds in the state.

The reversal signals a significant political shift within Rivers, potentially changing the dynamics and alliances within the state’s political terrain as the crisis between Governor Fubara and his predecessor, Nyesom Wike, persists.

For weeks now, tensions have been inflamed in Rivers with the State simmering in the cauldron of political uncertainty as the governor and his acclaimed godfather fight for political, financial and economic control of the State.
