Real Madrid Crashes Out Of The UEFA Champions League As Ajax Humiliates The Los Blancos 4 — 1 At Santiago Bernabeu

Real Madrid's dominance in European football was dealt a massive blow following an enthralling performance by Ajax on Tuesday.

Real Madrid crashed out of the UEFA Champions League with one of the most shocking nights in European football history. Ajax Amsterdam have created history tonight by becoming the first side after Juventus in nearly half a decade to defeat Madrid in a European knockout tie.

The young squad of Ajax over-turned a one-goal deficit from the first leg to win the return leg away from home 4-1. Yes, you read that right, four away goals from Ajax Amsterdam at the Santiago Bernabeu.

The Dutch outfits defied the bookies to cruise to an emphatic 4-1 victory at the Santiago Bernabeu, ensuring a 5-3 aggregate win for Erik ten Hag's men in the UEFA Champions League Round of 16 tie over the three times defending Champions has announced the arrival of a new contender for the coveted UEFA Champions League trophy.

What was tagged as a mission accomplished for Los Blancos has evidently took an unfortunate turn and right up with it, a few records have been scribed into the European competition's history books. The biggest of them all, perhaps, revolves around the fact that Ajax is only the second team in history to eliminate Real Madrid from a European knockout tie after losing the first leg at home.

In review, Danish outfit Odense Boldklub was the first-ever team to pull off such a feat in the 1995-96 UEFA Cup. Despite trying on multiple occasions, Tuesday night's win ensured a UEFA Champions League quarter-final qualification for Ajax for the first time since the 2002/2003 season.

The party began very early for ten Hag’s men when Hakim Ziyech netted the first goal in the 7th minute. David Neres doubled the scoreline after ten odd minutes, and it always seemed like an uphill task for Real Madrid from then on. The Whites were forced to make two quick substitutions half-way through the first half when Lucas Vasquez and Vinicius Junior hopped off the pitch.

Last, but not least, the Spanish giants will have to rise from the ashes after suffering their third loss at home by a three-goal margin.

"Real Madrid has lost three official games at home by a three-goal margin in the same season (3-0 vs CSKA, 3-0 vs Barcelona and 4-1 vs Ajax) for the first time in their 117-year history. Tomorrow the team will celebrate its saddest "birthday" in decades".
