Rapper Common Mourns BLM Activist Toyin Salau: “God Bless Her Soul”
Common has joined the list of star who are mourning Oluwatoyin Salau, the Nigerian Black Lives Matter activist, who was found dead in Florida after tweeting about the man who sexually assaulted her.
Recall that the 19-year-old Tallahassee, Florida-based Black Lives Matter activist had shared the story of the black man who offered to give her a ride and ended up assaulting her.
She wrote, “He came disguised as a man of God and ended up picking me up from nearby Saxon Street. I trusted the holy spirit to keep me safe.” And she even gave out the details of his appearance: “Mid 40’s lives in a gray painted duplex apartment-style house drives a white clean Silverado Chevrolet truck.”
Shortly after, Salau went missing. She was last seen on June 6.
The Tallahassee Police Department has since said that she was found dead, and the man she tweeted about has been arrested.
Fans are mourning her, and Common had something heartwarming to say, too.
He wrote: “#JusticeForToyin: She spent the last days of her life fighting for justice for her people. It shouldn’t be lost on us that Black Women have been at the forefront of these Movements. We have to stand up against violence happening to our Black Women and Girls. God Bless her soul.”
