Hyundai, Kia follow Twitter in snubbing Nigeria for Ghana

 

Two major automobile giants, Hyundai and Kia have continued the recent trend of choosing Ghana as an investment destination ahead of its much-vaunted illustrious neighbours, Nigeria.

MuchTalksBlog reports that both companies have announced their intention to establish assembly plants in Ghana.

This was disclosed by the Ghanaian Minister of Trade and Industry, Alan John Kwadwo Kyerematen. Kyerematen made this known via his verified handle on the micro-blogging site, Twitter on Thursday.

‘‘Pleased to announce that Hyundai & KIA are set to establish assembly plants in Ghana by the end of 2022 to join Toyota-Suzuki, Nissan, Kantanka, Volkswagen & Sinotruck. The Ghana Auto Development programme = 3,600 assembly & 6,600 manufacturing parts jobs in Ghana. #InvestforJobs,’’ the Minister had stated.

The latest development continues a recent trend.

Earlier, MuchTalksBlog had reported that micro-blogging giant, Twitter had snubbed Nigeria; electing to establish its African headquarters in Ghana. The development had generated an intense reaction among Nigerians; many of whom number among the most active youth segment on Twitter in Africa.

Equally important, Ghanaian President, Nana Akufo-Addo had described Twitter’s decision as justification of the confidence reposed in the country.

Meanwhile, the High Commission of Ghana in Nigeria has denied alleged castigation of Nigeria and her leadership by President Akufo-Addo.

This was disclosed by an official of the High Commission in Abuja who spoke on condition of anonymity.

The Ghanaian official said the comments trending on social media were nothing but fake news. Further, he denied the reports, which claimed that Akufo-Addo made some provocative comments attacking the leadership and good people of Nigeria.

While describing the reports as misleading, the official said that “President Akufo-Addo holds the brotherhood of Ghana and Nigeria in the highest regard”.

Akufo-Addo was quoted to have allegedly said: “We must learn from the mistakes of Nigeria, and never in our entire history be ever so foolish.

“You cannot declare war on your country and still be enjoying federal allocation as a state except in complicity with the government. The Nigerian government is an ethnic government, not a nationalistic government. What I cannot understand is why Nigerians themselves are not angry enough to change the situation.”

According to the official, the statements accredited to Mr. President were not true and misleading.
