Oyo NLC Resists Minimum Wage Removal, Calls on FG to Solve Security Challenges
... As NLC president resists attempt to remove minimum wage
The NLC, Oyo State chairman, Mr Kayode Martins has called on the Federal Government on behalf of Oyo State workers to reach a speedy and lasting solution to the insecurity currently rocking the country in a message endorsed by the National President of the NLC, Ayuba P. Wabba.
The NLC president and his TUC counterpart, Quadri Olaleye have also both vowed to resist any attempt to remove the minimum wage from the Exclusive list to the Concurrent list lamenting that quality wages have long been an issue in the face of the rising cost of living.
Wabba said that although negotiations in some states have been concluded two years ago, negotiations are yet to be concluded on the consequential increase in salaries, noting that national minimum wages serve as social protection by providing a minimum income floor to protect low-earning workers.
He also decried attempts by some members of the Nigerian ruling class who have already taken steps to remove the minimum wage bill as an item from the Exclusive Legislative List to the Concurrent Legislative List.
