Woman Delivered Of Baby While In Transit
A pregnant passenger travelling from Ado Ekiti in Ekiti State through Osun State to Ibadan, Oyo State, was on Saturday, delivered of a baby while in transit.
The woman, Mrs Janis Hannah, went into labour during a stopover in Ikire.
A trader at the ‘Naira and Kobo’ junction, Ikire, the headquarters of Irewole Local Government Area of Osun State, identified simply as Saidat, who witnessed the incident, said passengers in the vehicle were seized with apprehension when the woman went into labour.
“Even the driver of the vehicle, Adeolu, and the other passengers in the bus were confused and apprehensive when the woman went into labour,” Saidat said.
However, officials of the Osun Ambulance Scheme stationed some few metres away from the scene, responded to the distress call and eventually took the woman into their ambulance and took delivery of the baby.
The elated mother, it was further learnt, said a scan had revealed that she was due for delivery in two weeks time.
Confirming the incident, the General Manager of Osun Ambulance Services Agency, Dr Olusegun Babatunde, said the agency was being restructured to serve the people of the state better.
